Questions on Jewish and Conservative Christian Moral Theology

Many people believe that they and others derive moral believes from religious scriptures. I personally do not buy into this. However, given that many do, I am driven to ask: Theologically speaking, where do observant Jews and Conservative Christians derive their moral precepts?

Schism: A Muslim’s video response to Geert Wilders’ anti-Qur’an film Fitna

Barry Duke of The Freethinker writes: “IT had to happen – a Saudi man has hit back at films criticising Islam in a Fitna-style video which portrays Christianity as a religion of violence. The film, entitled Schism, was made by Raed al-Saeed. It splices together Bible verses and Iraq war images – including British soldiers … Continue reading

The funniest Bible verse that I have ever read

I’m currently reading the Bible, Old Testament and New. Working my way through Deuteronomy I nearly broke out laughing when I read this: Duty to a Dead Brother (25.5-10) “If two brothers live on the same propery and one of them dies, leaving no son, then his widow is not to be married to someone … Continue reading

A full-blown Rapture-anticipating anti-evolution Christian fundamentalist speaks

A reader is currently claiming that evolution is completely without evidence, that only scientists who are atheistic subscribe to evolution, and that the reason that atheistic scientists “cling” to evolution is that the alternative is to believe in an outside Creator, something that they just couldn’t bare. Florida legislators pushing for evolution to be taught as “just a theory”

Remember what I said about having to be a right-wing Christian nutter in order to be a public school administrator or council member in Florida? Well apparently it also applies to legislators in the state. Marc Caputo of the Miami Herald writes: Top state legislators say they’re ready to join the fight over putting the word … Continue reading

A query to the rationalist community: Don’t you just love it how religious people believe that their beliefs are somehow special? And that to point out the irrationality in believing them and to refer to the beliefs as having all the tell-tale signs of a fairy tale until proven otherwise is arrogant?

First requirement for being an education administrator or council member in Florida: You must be a Christian right nutter

I’ve written a few posts lately on the anti-evolution anti-reality Christian righttards making up the school board councils in a number of Florida counties. Today Ed Brayton posts on another righttarded state of affairs in Florida: the banning of pro-Gay Rights speech. The school also bans anti-gay speech. The school is taking a position similar to … Continue reading

TERRIBLE review for Ben Stein’s propaganda film “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed”

Ben Stein’s soon-to-be-released disingenuous anti-evolution Judeo-Christian fundamentalist crocumentary “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed” has received a scathing review from Roger Moore of the Orlando Sentinel. Moore described the “documentary” as “a rabble-rouser of a doc that uses all manner of loaded images, loaded rhetoric, few if any facts and mockery of hand-picked “weirdo” scientists to attack the those who, Stein … Continue reading
