Texas Republicans Call for Revocation of Scientology’s Religious Status
Texas Republicans have called to end the Cult of Scientology’s status as a legitimate religion eligible for tax-exemption in the state of Texas. The grounds of the resolution are that 1) the cult has no statement of faith; 2) they offer no routinized worship services; and 3) rather than providing “church” services freely and openly, they require individuals to pay large sums of money and endure extended periods of “mind altering auditing sessions” in order to gain access to the “church” teachings.
It’s not often that I get the opportunity to agree with Republicans (let alone Texas Republicans) on a contemporary political issue.
