Reply from US Afghanistan Embassy

This morning I received a reply to my email to the American Afghanistan Embassy regarding the death penalty assigned to Sayed Parwez Kambakhsh. Here is the email that I sent:

To whom it may concern:

I am writing to express my deepest disgust at the decision to put Sayed Parwez Kambakhsh to death for reading and distributing literature that opposes the Koran’s expressed views on the treatment of women. This is absolutely deplorable. Any belief system worth the paper on which it is written should be able to stand up to criticism. To kill someone for exploring and presenting other ideas is the height of cowardice and inhumanity. All of those responsible for this should be deeply ashamed. The world should stand in support of Mr. Kambakhsh’s freedom to read and present honest criticisms of any belief system, and in opposition of any government who would attempt to revoke this freedom or punish its application.

Good and humane societies respect its members and their autonomy.

And the reply:

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your concern regarding Parwez Kambakhsh situation. We
certainly will forward your concerns to the appropriate office(s).

I have to say, I’m surprised (and happy) that I received a reply at all. Hopefully they will forward the email along.

Free speech is a concept in a limited part of world and a novelty in the rest of the world. You may enjoy it in your country. The majority of humanity has never had it.

I would recommend writing to the Embassy; since it takes more effort than sending an e-mail, it lets them know that you’re really serious about the matter and aren’t just contacting them on a whim.

But good job contacting them! Afghanistan gets a lot of aid from the U.S. and is hopeful of more investment. If the American public becomes informed of this situation (and as many people as learn of Kambakhsh’s situation will be outraged at it) it’ll be hard for the Afghan government not to do something.

Parwez Kambakhsh should be imprisoned for life.
To think that women deserve to be treated equqlly as men is heresy.
It’s like the same heresy Galileo was charged with by the Roman Catholic Church when he tried to convince them that the Earth circled the sun. And we all know that can’t be right, the church elders say so. Or like when Micheal Angelo made those drawings of flying machines, yeah right… It’s all heresy. The church elders are always right… about everything. Right?? Maybe I’ll ask Jimmy Swaggart, or maybe Jim Baker or even Rev. Jim Jones… they always know what God wants us to do, God speak to them directly… so I hear. So never question the church Elders they are always always right.
Now where is that wife of mine. Damn… all these burkas look the same. There she is… and her ankles are showin’, I’ll beat her silly for showin’ that much flesh.
