Biosingularity reports on new findings that an experimental drug, taranabant, helps obese people lose weight by blocking cannabinoid receptors in the brain. “Cannabinoid receptors are responsible for the psychological effects of marijuana (Cannabis sativa), and natural “endocannabinoids” are important regulators of energy balance.” The 12-week study showed that taranabant decreased appetite and increasing sitting metabolic rate. Adverse effects of the experimental drug when taken at higher doses included gastrointestinal upset (e.g., nausea, vomitting), and increased irritability. Neurologically, psychologically, somatically and behaviourally, this drug really is the anti-pot.

I used to train for triathlons and used marijuana for its analgesic and mild psychotropic effects. I did not have an increased appetite. It would actually be diminished. Some of the people I trained with noticed the same effect.
